Based on the “Taj Mahal” preset (Program 90) on the Alesis Quadraverb.
It is a massive, highly ethereal, and slightly grainy 1980s digital reverb sound.
Sound Characteristics
• Massive and Spatial: It creates a huge, cavernous acoustic space with a long decay time that feels deep and bottom-heavy in the low-mid frequencies.
• Lofi and Grainy: Because it is an older 16-bit digital rack unit, the reverb tails have a distinct, slightly gritty or sparkly texture rather than a smooth, ultra-clean modern sheen.
• Modulated: The preset layers in stereo chorus and pitch feedback alongside the hall reverb algorithm, giving the trails a shimmering, undulating, and dreamy movement.
Famous Usage
• It is most famous for shaping the signature ambient and haunting guitar tones on Jeff Buckley’s Grace album, notably heard on tracks like “Hallelujah”.
