Hi there! It’s been a while since I was herelast time, and judging by an awful lot of activity in this category I take it ControlChain is about where I left it two-three years ago?
The Arduino library is still buggy? The host side of it is also still glitching?
Pardon my scepticism and a bit of sarcasm, but it’s a pity that such a good idea has been just left to die…
I was actually hoping to have a crack at this as I have a bunch if parts lying around (arduino’s enclosures, footswitches, etc)
My idea was a small MXR style enclosure with one OLED display, one encoder, one footswitch. Then make as many as I need over time to build a physical pedalboard.
But it does look it’s not getting much attention.
What is the avantage of the Control Chain on the midi protocole ?
As i understand it, two way comms. I.e the controller “knows” and can display what it is controlling. (Delay time: 300ms in a display type stuff) correct/educate me if i’m wrong.
Things like higher standard resolution (iirc we only have CC and not 14-bit midi or nrpn mapping and such?).
And you you can send data back to the device as additional HMI. Also the devices are (supposedly very easy to chain up.
I still have 3 Arduino shields, but haven’t taken the time to prototype anything with them. I always got the idea that 3d parties would have the opportunity to create control chain devices, but I think the market was always too small to go beyond individual prototypes.
Some attention to the arduino library - and maybe now that the firmware has opened up more: host side improvements - would certainly be nice. It is one of the unique and potentially compelling features of the MOD ecosystem.
