Dwarf production updates wanted:)

In the small agency I work for, about half the team are located in Europe. It took me some practice to try reducing my heavy use of American and SoCal slang when conversing with them. For example “you’re killing it!” as a replacement for “great job!” understandably led to some confusion.

It still surprises me, how we even successfully communicate with so many options for misunderstandings. And phrases are next level already… even simple words may transfer the full spectrum of emotions. This guy is a a comedian, but his point is valid nonetheless.

Once a leaf has become useless to the tree, it drops off the twig.
It’s a euphemism for death Dave.

Thanks John! Always interesting to know the origins of these things!

So the remaning tier 2 backers are in the same situation detailed in the update for tier 3?

On the remaining tier 2 we are quite closer to finish and still waiting for some devices from the factory to arrive.
I’m not sure if these devices will be enough to completely finish it thou (I believe that no).
Yet, we are doing our best to finish that tier with “what we have now”, meaning, independently of any financing deal, but counting on sales, etc.
Hopefully the deal will get closed and the line between this two sources will become sort of blurred. But the goal is to really try to reach the end of tier 2 asap (there are not so many backers missing).

Another four weeks have gone by, there is no info that the 50 units of the Tier 2 group that have been missing for two months have been shipped. What is the situation? As a Tier 3 packer I would like to know if I still have a chance to get a MOD Dwarf in Q3 2022 or if it will be 2024.
In the meantime, have you guys at least made progress on funding to keep it going?

@deroddo we are still struggling with the situation and Tier 2 was not yet fully finished, although we managed to ship a few devices more (now I really mean a few and it’s not my previous mistake with the word)

I’m a Tier 3 Dwarf backer, and I’ve been waiting patiently for a long time now. A long time. While I understand why you made the decision to start selling them retail, because of that and your inability or unwillingness to commit to a delivery date, I think it’s time that you started offering refunds with interest to Kickstarters. You’ve had my money a long time and I have nothing to show for it.

Maybe you don’t know how kickstarter campaign works.

Do you really think that is an option? The last update literally told us that they are looking for financial support. In what world does that equate to “refunds with interest”?

Kickstarter pledges offer zero guarantee of a return on your investment. If you aren’t willing to wait then why didn’t you choose the first tier of production? Petulantly complaining isn’t going to change anything about the situation that MOD, and we as backers, find ourselves in.

I have every confidence that they are doing what they can and, despite also waiting for a long time, am not going to waste anyone’s time by complaining that when I said “I’m happy to wait” I didn’t actually mean it!

To the MOD team: keep doing your best. We can’t ask any more from you than that. I’m still happily patient. I’m sure it will be worth the wait.

Hi Alan,

I can sympathize with how you feel as a fellow T3 backer. I don’t agree about the obligation to refund though.

Though this article is focused on US companies, the situation is similar abroad and across other industries: Supply Chain Issues Are Killing Synth Companies And Making It Impossible To Ship New Designs – Synthtopia

So I remain in a simultaneous state of frustration about how events played out, and gratefulness that MOD has been able to find ways to hang in there.

From a manufacturer quoted in that article:

“We’re also paying 30-40% more for metal cases and packaging.”

The same article mentions established companies that have gone out of business because of price increases and parts shortages.

I’m a tier 3 pledge too, I’m getting rather frustrated with the wait, but I do also work in the embedded device sector (medical devices currently) and so I understand the delays to manufacture. I’m just really hoping that MOD survives as a company

I understand exactly how a Kickstarter campaign works. I also know that if I couldn’t deliver, my self-respect would require that I give the money back, and if I’d held onto it for more than two years, I’d do it with interest.
