Dedicated Boxes with Knobs-a-Plenty for Each Effect Type

So… you guys are probably familiar with (closed-)Source Audio, Red Panda Labs, and Alexander Pedals, right? They make solid products. I have a few from each.

How about we combine these ideas? One pedal has 10-20 plugins for a specific type of effect plus knobs and switches on the top to control everything. I’m picturing those guitar knobs that say 1-10, lol. With a switch or [hold] footswitch to toggle between Group A and Group B.

I enjoy getting my hands on some big knobs when I’m playing.

It could have a small screen to grep the finer details. Something that is user replaceable and fairly standard. Easily readable. Maybe e-ink so it could be read anywhere (think day time outdoor fest) or something with low burn-in and good contrast.

Or no screen. Maybe two product lines later on and limited edition runs of one or the other in the meantime.

It would need LED indicators if a virtual pedal doesn’t have a certain configuration option.

These could have a set of secondary effects. Here I’m thinking about things like adding fuzz and reverb solely to delay lines.

example pedal I’m thinking of:

i.e. MOD Audio: Stomp Reverb could have all the reverb plugins available then go full wet into other effects types. It’d be nice to have some way of toggling series / parallel for the secondary effects.

The way to do these is to have templates with Primary Effect then Secondary Effects and Utility like EQ. This makes it easier for The Team to set everything up and for users to tinker with already as there’s a good foundation to branch from.

Stop thinking so much like a libre software nerd and think more like a musician who just wants “simple and sounds good” with as much or as little tweaking as possible. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: There are reasons why 1-knob distortions or 2-3 knob anything else sell so well. lol.
Gotta have simplicity at the forefront with advance configurations later like GNOME or KDE Plasma.

Alright. I think that was all for now.

(p.s. also think like the Meris X series but, with a better, open UI. Maybe TouchOSC could be adapted and plopped on the pedals? Forked, if necessary.)

More brainstorming. :cloud_with_lightning_and_rain::brain::cloud_with_lightning_and_rain:

Similar to how Synergy Amps makes modular amps and works with various manufacturers, MOD Audio could too! I already solicited a pedal maker to make plugins for the MOD Ecosystem. It would be great to get others on board (literally, hah!).

Official. Paid for with multi-effects units as is now or included in the base cost of a singularly focused device. Separating out to a suite of different pedals might make this easier to get companies to agree to. Plus, people are already used to paying $250-500 for one box.

Don’t undervalue even if it doesn’t cost, say, $300 to make a pedal. Take the extra money to cover software development and design, order larger quantities of supplies, and promotion. I think it’d be cool to offer discounts if a person is buying numerous pedals at once.

I imagine newer Arm CPUs would be good to use for these. Low power usage plus good processing without having to, nor being expected to, preform every trick in the book all at once. Perhaps a notebook grade AMD CPU for the larger units.

As I mentioned, having different form factors: rack unit, mini PC, stompbox, tabletop FX unit, all appeal to and fit in with different workflows for different audiences. That’s why they exist in the first place.

Maybe the tabletop synth space is covered with Zynthian and the Synthström Deluge. I don’t know. Maybe some of these groups can work together.

My brain is sputtering. I think I was going somewhere else with this but, I need a break from the computer. lol.

Hahaha! I think, there are some appealing ideas in there. Monetization is the tricky part, as usual.

I personally would love to see a rack unit. Not 19", but 10". There are some lovely cases in that form factor with great portability. One space for effects, one for power supply, one for I/O, one for battery, one for…
