Not sure how I missed this thread! I’ve listened to Frank since 1974. Met him for about 30 seconds on the street in San Francisco circa 1983. I live near San Jose (not Reseda) where in the past 2 years an amazing tribute ensemble Stinkfoot Orchestra has formed and started touring the west coast. I’ve seen them 5 times now. They have had either Ike Willis or Napoleon Murphy Brock as special guest and I have met and chatted with both of those guys. They have a 5 piece horn section, two background vocalists, percussion maniac who NAILs Ruth and Ed Mann’s parts. They focus heavily on the early 70’s repertoire but they do a really broad swatch of material. And true to form, they even do some songs I never want to hear again, e.g. “Beepies n’ Beer” but hey. It’s all part of the fun.
A very beautiful text about the final days of the great Frank Z.
I love Zappa for decades
what about Zappa’s pedal board ?
is there any attempt to mimic Zappas’ pedalboard for MODs ?
here is the Ali Baba’s Cave : https://www.zappasgear.com/
Hi All - I’ve been a Zappa fan for a couple decades now. I haven’t seen all the “tribute” bands. However, Zappa Plays Zappa (Dweezil’s band) is BY FAR the best & tightest of the teenage rocking combos out there. Don’t be fooled by the imitations…only the best for my dog…only the best for the real Zappa will do.
Yup…a bit off topic, but well worth it…thanks for the distraction.
Are you hung up?
Main FZ sounds I’ve tried to get with various things are the envelope flanger and S/H resonant filter.
