Using Cardinal plug-in on Duo X

Hello everyone! I’m trying unsuccessfully to make my own Mod Duo X patches based on Cardinal plug in. There is a missing link I just cannot figure out. Can anyone help me step by step how to connect Cardinal app from the laptop with the Mod Duo X and how to transfer a Cardinal preset from the laptop to Mod Duo X? That missing link definitely contains some fundamental information i don’t know about making this devices communicate to one another. I appreciate any advice, thank you :pray:t3:

When you run the native/desktop version of Cardinal on your PC you can use the File->Deploy to MOD option (or F7 key) to push the current patch to the MOD unit via USB.

Hello. I hope it’s going well for you.

Just some suggestions and best practices from my experience.

The version I have is File > Connect to Remote. When Auto deploy to remote is checked, you can make adjustments in your PC version (I use my DAW).

I like to open a clean pedalboard in the Duo with one Cardinal DISTRHO module. Once I like what I have I save the patch in the module. If I have more than one instance of the Cardinal module then I can’t control which version I’m pushing a patch to.

Patches that are too busy or use heavy processing like Plateau can cause the CPU to spike in the Duo. In those instances I will strip out the delays and reverbs then apply the Duo delay/reverb modules in the pedalboard.

My PC audio interface doesn’t support CV so I can’t build a patch with CV. I instead use the DISTRHO Cardinal Mini which has a limited amount of modules you can work with within the Duo.

Check for new versions of Cardinal from time to time. I just checked and there is a new one for me!

Have fun!

Thank you for this info. I’m using an old MacBook Pro mid 2010 with macOS Big Sur forced to run on it with the OpenCore patcher. Unfortunately I still don’t get it how to make Cardinal app and Mod Duo X to communicate. And further how to transfer a Cardinal preset from the computer app (standalone or DAW plugin) to the Cardinal pedal in a DuoX pedalboard. Maybe some basic computer knowledge is missing. I tried “connect to remote” from the CardinalNative app and also from Ableton using Cardinal as a plugin. Do I have to connect DuoX firstly to the web browser interface? It just beats me.

Sorry you’re having this issue. I know that can be frustrating. The only thing I can think of is that your Mod Duo X needs to be connected via the USB computer port (B port) to your Mac in order to access the web GUI. For the MOD Duo X: http://modduox.local or http://192.168.51.1. Then you create a new pedalboard, bring in the Cardinal module, then open Cardinal from your Mac, then try “connect to remote”.

If you’ve already done that then perhaps there’s a network connection issue. I found this that might help.

If your connected to the GUI then check to ensure the Duo X system is up to date (lower right).

You could also try someone else’s computer to see if it works on a different system.

Good luck!

It finally…works!!

It helped, there was a network connection issue. But still I don’t understand why, the web GUI was accessible, I could create any pedalboard with any pedals except for the Cardinal.

Anyway it was helpful. Thanx a lot!!
