The mod-plugin-cookbook: using AI to create new plugins

h90-weedwacker.mk (16.0 KB)

h90-harmadillo.mk (17.7 KB)

Refined the weedwacker and armadillo so they are a bit more usable. Now going through the algorithms to try and make them all similar.

You really need to try these Gianfranco and Jon to see how good they are.

I tend to make stuff that is useful to me as a violin player. I haven’t been publishing a lot, since I’m still learning… but it would be very nice if we could as a minimum organize it so that everyone that’s looking for a equalizer can choose that category and filter, also brand or model should be criteria and maybe even instrument.. so several filters to make finding what you want easier.

Perhaps we should use the MOD categories of Simulator, Spectral, MIDI, etc. as part of the .MK file name? Maybe prepended to the name to enable sorting as a list? Also, there has been talk about better documentation for the controls and functions of pedals. AI is excellent at this. Perhaps a style can be created at a link like the cookbook link (or maybe at the cookbook link) that could specify format and criteria for documentation. Then with the .MK file, an info file could be made as a .txt file with the same naming conventions as the .MK file. I don’t know anything about this kind of stuff but I suspect that without front-loaded intentionality the amount of work for post-facto cleanup may be quite a mess. Also, we may miss opportunities to build in a comprehensible structure that can be refined over time. My two cents.

And a good two cents.

The dwarf tends to put them in the right categories I find so far. I was thinking more about a way to have the categorised before uploading maybe even a separate folder in the plugin store although that would make things very messy. We almost need an admin to sort the plugins created so that not all make the cut especially my earlier creations

Effect filtering by category would be great.I don’t know if it’s possible to create subtopics within’ this topic with the effect categories.I’ve just posted the makefiles here, and apart from a few effort at the start, the rest of them are working fine. But if we put them in the plugin store, i would be more critical, and double check if it’s worth to upload there.I prefer less good working algorhythms, than a lot of half-baked effects.Anyway, I will need your feedbacks, if you have any ideas how to make these effects even better don’t hesitate to write, or simply just make another, improved version! So far i was busy with my creations, but later i will also check your effects too, and if there is a way to improve it, I will let you know.Last but not least another bunch of effects:

Man I wish I had time to fire the dwarf up tonight for space force. That has to be the coolest name ever!

OK spaceforce is now on and bloody hell it’s lovely! Tried syntaxerr too, not as much my thing but still amazing. A lot better than mine - well until I upload my instant phaser and flanger

I will chech these ones, thank you!I’ve tested the previous 2.They sound good, but the drive pot in Harmadillo doesn’t do nothing.Claude checked it, and found a bug regarding this, so i improved it, hopefully it’s no problem. Here is the new version.

Cheers dude, this might be the way forward as I notice a few errors here and there on a lot of the creations both mine and others. Normally mine are first or 2nd pass. Just getting them not to invalid package or error code 2 eats up my messages. Still want to redo the reverbs as they all seem to have a tinny ring to them on certain settings. So the fact that we see to be able to work together and have similar ideas, it might be worth slowing down now the novelty is over and maybe post the mk file, the other sends it through their Claude to start picking up errors more easily and post back until between the guys on this thread have something we agree on and then maybe do a Gui and move onto next . Even when I upload a working example the next 2 passes normally fail or have something missing. Which can be slightly annoying

Ok, that method can work. From now on I will create less plugins, and I will focus a bit more on testing, and refining. If you notice a misbehaviour or bug somewhere in a plugin, just let me know, and I can fix that with Claude pro, and you don’t have to wait for Claude to be available again. The updated version I will send back, so step by step the plugins can reach their final form.

Awesome Lipi really appreciate that as I’m sure others will too. I’m struggling with infinite jets at moment, effects type not changing anything and a few other quirks. I don’t own the pedal so hard to guess what’s wrong sometimes. If you fancy taking a look that would be cool.

Hey all

Very happy to see the movement around the plugin-cookbook. It is really exciting!!

I am trying to understand what could be the next steps and I have two important questions:

1 - How do you work with AI when making plugins?
  • I use the web chat only (Claude.ai, ChatGPT, Gemini…)
  • I use AI inside my code editor (VS Code Copilot, Cursor, etc.)
  • I use a desktop AI agent with file access (Claude Code, Cowork, etc.)
  • I haven’t tried AI nor the plugin-cookbook yet

2 - If it meant more powerful plugins, would you be comfortable working with a folder of files instead of a single .mk file?
  • Yes, no problem
  • Maybe, if there’s a clear guide
  • Probably not. I prefer keeping it simple
  • I’m not sure what that means yet

Let’s step onto the future!

Hi Austin,

I refined the plugin. The algorhythm path were shared on the same freeze-engine, now are structurally different, you will hear the difference.Regarding sequence profiles, “Random stutter” wasn’t random, it has been fixed. There was only a minor difference between “Wide bounce” and “Ascending arpeggio” but now each mode has a distinct character.Another issue was the “tracking dynamics” parameter, it didn’t do anything, it has been fixed. Some algorhythm works better to set “monophonic gate” but with the other mode you can also make weird and interesting sounds.

hogram-infinitejets.mk (27.0 KB) I also don’t have the original pedal, but if you have any other suggestion to inprove the plugin, just let me know.Cheers

Wow, cheers for that, great team work. I think of things and you do all the work:rofl: I feel like Steve Jobs. Will check it out later. Got a few more H90s to check before I put up. But they seems to be OK so far.

That would be lovely. Reduce the “overwhelmness” and improve the chances of a plugin really get through and make it into the Store.

What you have been doing it’s amazing! I can even read your excitement with this new possibility. Unfortunately I still didn’t manage to try nor the plugins nor “the feature” itself, although even today I was thinking of a “need” of mine that this would fix super quick…but again, I guess that we need to start organizing this efforts.

My priorities later have been checking the other new plugins shared in the forum and kicking the beta store clean up. If all that was already shared here would make it into 2…3…5… well polished plugins, I guess they can be moved to one of the other “lists”, get some UI, documentation and presets and eventually quickly make it to the Plugin Store.

This is exactly what I love to read and what I think makes this community a complete “oasis” on the nowadays Internet :smiling_face_with_tear: lovely!

Cheers Jon, once things slow down with the plugin store you will have your mind blown, Lipis stuff is pretty epic. Mines not too shabby either to be fair. Maybe as well we could have other forum members put in requests. I’m sure you noticed that so far we are probably over reaching trying to clone Eventide and Beetronics stuff but there definitely seems to be a lot of happy accidents or near enoughs to warrant further designs.

As the plugin store is so huge and going to get bigger maybe rather than just look at the betas, maybe look at the actual plugins in the store already that arent upto much and remove them but suppose that’s a whole different job that you don’t need. That way we might have room for the cookbook creations. God help us all if we can start making synths too!

It almost feels like we need a new Dwarf but not Anagram prices  to take full advantage of this feature. I still think it’s groundbreaking. That and Starless seem to really invigorate the Dwarf but fear people lost faith in it - me too included which is a shame as finally it seems to be the product we all hoped for. Anyway enough meandering hope all is well your end

Lipi, got a few more for you to run through your claude for a tweak.

h90-sculpt.mk (18.6 KB)

h90-chorus.mk (16.8 KB)

h90-flanger.mk (16.8 KB)

h90-modfilter.mk (16.5 KB)

sculpt compressor might need a tweak. And not sure what the mod speed etc in the chorus flanger modfilter do just yet but I’ll try and google that in a minute

h90-pitchfuzz.mk (18.7 KB)

Pitch fuzz seems ok but obviously any tweaks would be greatr

Hi Austin, I tested sculpt and chous so far.Sculpt sounded ok, the only bug was the compressor, it has been fixed.Chorus had a missing secondary modulation lfo,so half of the pots didn’t work at all.Now it works fine.

h90-sculpt-fixed.mk (18.9 KB)

h90-chorus-fixed.mk (17.8 KB) I will check the other ones later, and I will refine them.

You da man Lipi!

You really should do this for a living. Appreciate it. I’ve beem running the Claude creations through gemini tidying them up which seems to be working a bit better. Pitchfuzz is almost there now I think.
