Tested and approved MIDI controllers

I gave up on the stock FCB1010 but have had GREAT SUCCESS with both Line 6’s FBV Shortboard Mk II and FBV Express Mk II. They plug in fine to USB and can be easily programmed on Mac and PC with an editor to send CC or Midi machine control. The switches can toggle or be momentary or even be set to increment values. The lights reflect the on off state of the pedals but not necessarily the state of the MOD depending on what the initial settings of your pedalboard are. I just zero out the pedals with each new song. I also got the midi program change to work with boards and snapshots. The LCD displays what midi is being sent when you press any switch.

The shortboard is built like a tank and can be found used for a little over $100 in the US. The express has a plastic base with 4 metal pedals, but is about half the price.

I realize this post is very old, but I just got an MP100. It’s not working so I probably haven’t put in the correct settings. Can you let me know what you did to make it work?

Many thanks …

Hello all! Trying again to get into synth stuff and I just found a good price for an Arturia Minilab 3. I was wondering if this will work as midi controller for my Duo X. It’s not in the list but that doesn’t mean it won’t work so… Anyone has ever tried it? Any other midi keyboard with similar features recommended?

Thanks! It was nice to come back to the forum and read the news! :kissing_heart:

Is there any reason why you think it might not work?
This is quite a standard midi controller, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t.

There are tens of thousands of midi controllers out there. It is impossible to individually test and list all of them.

Just this conversation made me a bit uncertain about it… I’d like to use the USB connection as I may need the DIN for control with other device.

Other people seem to have used Arturia devices and Duo X without any problems so I guess it’ll be ok. Just wanted to make sure. Also seeing the Akai MPK mini in the list but not the Minilab made me doubt as both seem to be close competitors and very popular in that range.

Thanks for the answer!

I have used an FBV Mk2 line 6 thing which works well and seamlessly.

However, I have had to buy several units over the years because the usb port broke in exactly the same way x3 times on different units.

I recently decide to upgrade to a morningstar mc6 pro which also works with the mod. A lot more complicated to program than the FBV but has a lot more features.

Neither of the above units allow me to press and hold a stomp and then another. I am really interested in units that will allow me to do this so if any owners of any of the above mentioned units have a minute and could try pressing x2 switches at once and report back I would massively appreciate it

I’d be surprised if anyone else had this dinosaur but the 30+ year-old Nobels MF1 Midi Foot Controller works without problems. You need a TRS type A cable, mind.
