I was using the Degrade plug-in to reduce the bit-depth of a signal. However when this was set to the highest bit-depth, (best quality) I was still getting some distortion. I wanted one knob to sweep from clean to bitcrushed.
So I used CV. The first Control to CV is controlled by a knob on my MOD Duo X. I also reverse it’s output with the Parameter Modulation, because the bitcrush on the Degrade plug-in, goes from low quality to best - I want zero on the Mod knob to be high quality, and then sweep down to fully crushed. That part is just my preference.
The key thing is that I have a Control to CV going into a gate, and the CV controlling bitcrush opens that gate. When the first knob is adjusted to any positive amount, the gate opens and the plug-in is turned on. But if I have my bitcrush knob set at zero (no adjustment to bit depth) - the entire plug-in is turned off. This prevents any distortion from going through.
I hope this helps somebody who wants to have a single knob both turn on a plug-in and adjust some parameter within it.
