Hi everyone. I was wondering whether there are any physical modelling plugins available similar to the Yamaha VL-1M and VL-70, which allowed combining different formants with different wave forms to create entirely new instruments? At the time of their release it would have been unimaginable to be able to simply plug in an electric guitar into one of these devices without using a guitar to MIDI interface, but now this is very much a possibility, so I’d love to see what soundscapes could be created with those sorts of highly realistic sounds.
So if it is possible to create this type of plugin I would like to request this, and I believe such a plugin or range of plugins would be a real benefit to this community, since physical modelling simply cannot be compared with other types of synthesis, plus the fact that these mod devices have far more powerful CPUs and more memory than the 2U rack VL-1M and VL-70M devices had back in the '80s when they were released, so these plugins could further amplify the range of those early processors, not to mention that they could now be used direct by any instrument without the need for a MIDI Interface, meaning that one could just plug in an electric guitar or a microphone and begin to use the plugin straight away…
Also, given the web interface it would be possible to gain a far better understanding of how the formants are combined with different samples to produce these sounds. I think this could be a really exciting project for some of you devs to explore!
