Octaver is too CPU expensive?

Hi,

Before I sold half of my gear to switch to Dwarf I liked having clean sounds and combine wha > octaver > chorus.

On the dwarf I didn’t find any viable solution for replacing my sub’n’up (+1 oct, -1 oct, -2 oct) because:

  • GxOC-2 is sounding ok, but I finally spotted it as the guilty sound storms generator that sometimes happens, which are absolutely not tolerable on live conditions. Huge issue. (already mentionned on the forum).
  • MOD 2Voices is close to what I like but damn it is CPU expensive. Having 1 of those with a few other pedals and the pedalboard runs at 70% even on Medium tracking…
  • Pretty much the same for the pitch shifter MOD Drop with only -1 octave.

From what I learned on other posts this is pretty much it: pitch detection is expensive. End of the story ?

So unless I’ve missed something, my question would be more: do you suggest something else in replacement ?

Having an octaver makes the signal stronger, wider. I use it to raise intensity in solos while keeping the signal clean (I play mostly jazz). What else could I try ?

Thanks in advance for your advices !
Nicolas

Have you tried the Portal plugin?

Pitch effects are expensive indeed…for all machines.

Yet you can always find more or less efficient plugins or good compromises with the fidelity/quality or even as @LievenDV is sort of suggesting, dealing with a bit more latency.

I suggest as well that you give a try to the DM Whammy. I did a simple test the other day and it seemed to me quite CPU-efficient without compromising quality.
