Will this or any of the “Open Images” land as OTA updates or will I from now on have to manually upgrade?
“Open Images” is a generic term for the OS images that were released since 1.13.5 back in October 2024 and allow repackaging, which is what allow alternative OS images like Starless to happen.
The idea of this new release flow is exactly to funnel the features of the community made alternative images into the mainstream OS, which land as OTA updates.
For 1.14, the devices which had already opted in as beta testers (the so called Group 1) are already receiving the updates automatically via the Web UI. This option was registered in the MOD Cloud back in 2021 when we started shipping the Dwarf.
Once we finish the TESTING cycle and 1.14 lands as STABLE (Group 0), then everyone will receive the updates automatically in the Web UI.
One of the features being added in 1.14 is the capacity to self opt-in as TESTING, directly via the Settings screen in the Web UI, allowing the TESTING images of the upcoming 1.15 also to land as OTA updates.
