Hi everyone,
this is the first release candidate of MOD OS 1.14 for Duo, Duo X and Dwarf, codename “Evelyn, a Modified Dog”.
It is a test build: install it if you are comfortable reinstalling a previous version by hand, and please report anything odd in this topic. The new “Report a problem” button in the Web UI brings you here with your device details already filled in.
On the device: Settings → System Upgrade. The device shows up on your computer as a USB drive.
Copy the .tar for your device onto that drive and follow the prompt on the device.
It reboots, installs (about five minutes) and comes back on 1.14. Your pedalboards and
files stay in place.
To go back, install the 1.13.5 file the same way. You can download it from the Releases page.
What’s new in 1.14
Tone3000 inside your device. The NAM loader, the cabinet simulator and the IR loader
have a “Browse tones” entry: log in to Tone3000, pick a capture or an IR, and it downloads
straight into the plugin. Brought to you by MOD Audio, made possible by the
Starless team.
Grouped plugin controls. Plugins that declare port groups now show their controls
grouped and colour-coded in the settings view, created by the Starless team with support from MOD.
Easy Spin programs. The File Manager has an “Easy Spin Programs” folder and the
plugin’s .json programs are recognised. EasySpin is a very exciting upcoming plugin and project by @mark_melvin
Drop and replace. Drag a plugin from the sidebar onto one on the board to swap it,
keeping the connections.
Snapshots are always saved, their screenshots refreshed, with a save indicator.
Control Chain devices behave exactly as on 1.13.5. Persistent assignments across
unplug/replug are ready on the development branch and will come in a later release,
once the new update flow has settled.
MIDI program-change pedalboard switching works again after the last Web UI session closes.
A Stable / Testing update-channel setting inside Settings (for now a preference only; the update server side comes with a later build).
Report a problem button: opens this topic with your system details ready to paste.
Under the hood: newer audio engine (jack2, mod-host), Control Chain master, MIDI merger,
updated resampling and ALSA libraries, plugin frameworks (DPF, JUCE, Carla), plus a long
list of fixes (silent failures in snapshots, plugin install and file transfers; pedalboard
screenshots; a crash at startup in the Python bindings; mixer profile per sound card).
Known issues
Once, deleting the NAM plugin right after a Tone3000 download crashed the audio server
(it recovers on reboot). We could not reproduce it - if it happens to you, tell us exactly
what was loaded.
On the Duo, the built-in sha256sum command gives wrong results; verify downloads on your
computer instead.
How to report
Web UI → “Report a problem” → copy the text → paste it here with what you did, what you
expected and what happened.
i’ve got a show in a couple of weeks, so might be tentative about testing for now, but is it looking stable so far in your testing (especially on DuoX)?
and one question:
is this likely to yield any change in performance load before xruns?
I’ve tested it, and I’ve found a bug.
I’ve tried to use my cab IR-s in IR loaders.I have 9 folders of Cabinet IR-s, but the IR loaders can detect only 2 of these.In the previous version that woked correctly.It’s not related with one plug-in, all the cab IR loaders behaving like this.On the other hand, Tone3000 integration works well, I can download IR files, and I can use it in a pedalboard.However those downloaded files can’t be found in file manager system. This issue was only with the CAB IR folders, reverb IR-s are working fine.
Steps to reproduce
1.Create multiple folders to your cab IR-s in file manger.Upload your IR files in those folders.
2. Just place an IR loader (for example Mod Cab Loader) in a pedalboard and try to find all your files in it, that you previously uploaded.
Expected
Some of the folders will be not be available.I detected only 2 folders from the 9 I have.
Found and fixed. The problem is with empty folders. The navigator will skip folders that have no files, even if they have subfolders with files. Already in place for RC-2.

The Mod dwarf and another bug : What happened
I’ve used my morning star mc6 pro as usual.
It worked in usb mode.
The midi display show the midi command but it’s impossible to save it on a switch.

On the button text: I set it up fresh on a Dwarf on this build and press, hold and double‑press all show the custom text.
Two questions: was the text typed before the update and restored from a saved pedalboard? And is the button on a Dwarf footswitch, or triggered from the MC6 over MIDI? The popup only exists for a footswitch assignment.
On the MC6: I could not reproduce it either. A USB controller on this build gets picked up, MIDI Learn maps it and the control follows. To find the difference:
Is the MIDI Display wired from the MC6’s own port in the pedalboard, or from “All MIDI In”?
After you click MIDI Learn and press the switch, what does the dialog do: keep waiting, close without an assignment, show an error?
Is that MC6 switch sending a CC, or a Program Change / Note? Learn only listens for CC.
Did the same assignment work on 1.13.5 on this unit?
Not likely. But I’ll include some performance measures in my next tests.
I found a regression in the TextArea UI object - it no longer shows text. Fixed (hopefully) in the PR below.
Simple TextArea block in the UI that used to show text no longer does in the new version. This was used by my Easy Spin plugin and I believe is there in the Cardinal plugins to show comments as well. They are now blank.
Steps to reproduce
Open the Easy Spin settings - the “Pot Assignments” block should show text related to pot assignments for the selected preset. Nothing is shown.

Expect to see the text shown.
