NAM plugin at 90% CPU on its own

Was trying out the NAM plugin using my Duo X. Is it normal for CPU usage to be at 90% with only this plugin loaded, even before connecting the inputs and outputs? Seems like a bug to me.

I guess it depends on the size of the model you load. The Dwarf can onky manage nano models, the duo x, being powerful, maybe can push itself a little further.

I use NAM on DUOX and had never such a problem.

That’s why we always promoted the AIDA-X profiling over the NAM on the MOD devices; NAM models require a lot of processor power and at the time of the creation of the Dwarf, aimed at desktop pc use…not “programmable pedal use”.

Indeed, ty using the nano models or consider the nice range of models available for the AIDA-X
(which uou can create yourself btw! I made a good handful already: Modeling amps and pedals for the AIDA-X: Best practices - MOD Audio website)

I love AIDA concept and look, and I’ve gotten some good sounds out of it, but the interface confuses me. Is there somewhere I can learn about the settings and how to only get the sound of the model itself?

The NAM thing is very easy, and you can’t tweak much. This is both good and bad - I like that AIDA can mess with the models a bit - but I would like to understand how to get the pure sound of the model in AIDA, if this makes sense.

PS: For NAM, make sure you’re running in 256 frames to nearly “double” your processing power.

Sorry, still really new to this platform - can you explain how to do that? Is this done on the Duo X or via the web GUI? Thank you.

I feel the same way, but I have many profiles for the NAM plugin which can’t be used in the AIDA X plugin. It’s a real shame, because as you say, the UI is much more developed than the NAM plugin’s UI.
I also find the AIDA X plugin both confusing and limiting, since it can’t use or load NAM profiles.

That’s because the two are based on a completely different way of learning the behaviour of the amp it attempts to model.

NAM and AIDA-X models use a different “language” and need a different plugin to run.
They share the fact that they use “neural models” but that is as far as it goes.

AIDA-X models require less process power, as it is designed to run on pedals etc. NAM is designed to run on powerful desktop pc’s.
Does that means AIDA-X models don’t sound good? No, as far as I am concerned, the AIDA-X models can sound very convincing, even on the lighter models.

I recommend using AIDA-X technology for MOD devices.
