ModDwarf MIDI Out/Thru

Hi guys! I can’t find info about if the MIDI Output in the Dwarf can work just as MIDI THRU?

I’m using a MIDI Controller Pedal to control de Dwarf… and also I want to control another device at the same time, using the same MIDI Controller going to the ModDwarf first and to my other device next…

Is that possible? I’m asking just to decide if I will get just another MIDI Cable 3.5 mm or a CMA MIDI Box

Thanks!

yes it is possible. I control changing channels at my Amp1. Amp1 has a MIDI learn function.

Yes, this is possible. If you need Midi Through, you should pull a cable from Midi input to Midi output in the editor so that the signal is also fed through.

Great! Thanks for answering!

Ok! I didn’t know that a virtual MIDI wire is needed in the editor… Thanks a lot for the help! :slightly_smiling_face::+1:t3:

You must treat the virtual pedalboard as if it were a physical one. If there is no cable on the physical one there would be no Midi trough either. :grinning:

I’m confused. MIDI Thru is not a default?

The pedalboard has midi input on the left, and output on the right.
How would such an opaque “default” work?

It’s easy enough to pull a cable to create the through connection.

Every MIDI device I’ve ever owned has MIDI Thru. You set it globally. There is no such thing on the Duo X. Unless I’m missing something.

Indeed there isn’t, but none of those other “MIDI devices” have the capability to make your own MIDI routing.
As said: this is so incredibly simple to do and it makes it much more clear what you are doing in the patch.

Could it be possible to do it “behind the scenes”? sure, but does it make sense? maybe not.

What if you have multiple midi devices connected? how would you then do the “thru” connection? this only adds more configuration problems than it solves. Sending any input to any output can cause MIDI loops, which is just bad.

It’s much better for the user to decide how they specifically want to route their devices.

ps; I have plenty of devices with MIDI input and output that do not have thru by default. Most of the times there is even a separate thru port (DIN) that does this “automatic routing”. The way the MOD devices work is not at all like the classic MIDI gear from the 80s …

Yes, it is easy enough to add MIDI Thru on each patch. It’s just odd to me that you have to do that way.

Hi Klowly,
for me this is absolute logical: You have a Midi in and a Midi out. By drawing a cable from in to out you have Midi through. It is like in real life, without connection no signal. Whatever you do in the Mod eco-system must be done like in real life. This for me is the most fantastic point about Mod.
