MOD in the wild!

Great stuff, and small world! Fellow Mod-using Pittsburgher here. I’ll have to come check out a show sometime.

Cool! Do you play out with the Mod Duo?

Sadly I haven’t played out in a couple of years, so the timing was off to be able to use the Duo in a live situation. But I love using it to practice, it does absolutely everything I could ever need. I definitely hope to use it live at some point.

No pictures yet, but I’ve performed with Duo at open mics last couple of weeks. Nothing exotic wired up, just using a couple basic clean / tremolo boards to produce a nice tone through the bar’s PA while I butcher cover songs

This busy dad sure appreciates all the users who share pedalboards because many of them have been great starting points for me. In another life I would be totally into building and obsessing over pedalboards but time is precious and I already spend all my working hours at a computer. It’s so nice to start with something already created that sounds good and just get to the playing.

Hi!

A little video tomfoolery presenting a proof-of-concept experiment as a Duo (with a Duo…).

Wow, what a tune!
And great video too

hey all you MODsters… here’s a video from a recent show with my absolute favourite band, RIVERRUN:

…my stuff is all Duo, controlled by my arduino-based switch/pedal-to-MIDI converter and the MOD CC switchbox.

i should also give a shout-out to TAP for the pickup i use on all my woodwinds:

I finally got around to posting videos on my all-digital setup which includes the Kemper, HX Effects, and Mod Duo. I also recorded some video that captures how everything sounds out of my stereo amp (not the greatest example of stereo audio as it was from the camera mic, not direct).

Anyway, just thought I’d share it with you all!

That’s one heck of a rig. Thanks for sharing. Have you been able to connect the Line 6 Midi to the Duo in order to control MOD plugins? In particular, I am interested in being able to use my HXFX to control the plugins on the Dwarf using the knobs on HXFX.

Hi, sorry for the late reply! I have not used Line 6 Midi to Duo, but I’d imagine it’s possible using the USB connection, althought I haven’t done it myself. I would check out the forums to see what people say, but what I can say is that the HXFX has been used to control midi from other devices, so I can’t see why not. The Duo (and thus the Dwarf) is extremely powerful and flexible, you’re gonna love it.

From my Italy tour a couple of weeks ago, here’s an entire show of mine (the first time in 20 years that an entire set has appeared online  ) - the DuoX is doing 80% of the processing (handful of other pedals doing specific things, and the vast majority of the looping (I have an MXR Clone Looper in there too right at the front of the chain that’s doing some backwards double speed stuff) - it’s a pretty good insight into how I’m using the DuoX…

If you want the live album of this, it’s available to subscribers on Bandcamp, along with the first gig of the tour (third gig still to come) and 55-ish albums from my catalogue (everything I’ve ever done solo and a load of exclusive collaborations) - https://stevelawson.bandcamp.com/subscribe

Built a whole new DuoX board last week, and the first track with it was released yesterday - this is a live performance, no edits or overdubs (the mastering widened the stereo image a little and compressed the track, but not much  )

The controllers used are the Mod Footswitch (for one instance of the sooperlooper plugin), a KMI Softstep 2 (effect on off, and lots of controlling instances of the switchbox to change the path, and the expression pedal assigned to reverb level) and a Quneo to play the drum part at the beginning and bits of percussion throughout. (there’s also a couple of bits where I’ve used my MXR Clone looper to take a section of the melody captured, make it quadruple the speed and flip it backwards)

https://stevelawson.bandcamp.com/album/the-root-of-it-all - I’ll share the board soon.

Enjoy!

Thomann with producer Jamaica Suk in her Sound Dissection youtube series where she uses a MOD DuoX as effects processor for an Access Virus Ti2 Darkstar:

Good idea for a thread.

I was hoping to see more on the above video, but it was quite a basic use of the MDX

Yeah it’s not like an expose on MOD, more on her production technique and the MOD is there just as a basic effects processor (quite under-using it with only some preset effect pedal-boards).

Big fan of this topic. Love seeing what people are doing with MOD stuff.

Might be cool to repost some of the links that are still live from https://forum.moddevices.com/t/mod-duos-in-the-wild/

Derp, so there was already a topic!

Can a mod merge the two, it was not my intention to duplicate another thread
