Mod Footswitch

Hey Guys,

I’ve been looking for a while now for an Footswitch for my Dwarf.
Is it still possible to purchase an Mod Footswitch from Mod or somewhere else (any retail partners)?

Some dudes were selling them on ebay and so on but never answering my contact request.

I really need some more stomps for live shows in the future. Or can i simply use an Boss GA-FC or something similiar?

much love

Hi,

You can use any USB or TRS 1/4” midi controller.
I. e. I use a cheap USB hub with two Chocolate devices, which gives me 8 switches and 2 continuous controllers. It’s small and efficient

Hi,

I bought mine a couple of months ago from an online store based in Spain (I don’t know if I’m allowed to report the exact address or if there’s a policy against advertising in this forum, but you can google and I’m positive you’ll quickly find it. At the moment, it seems that there are some units available).

I’m very satisfied with it, although it’s too pricey compared to similar alternatives.

I also have a Chocolate, and it’s wonderful considering its price, but not having any feedback sometimes becomes an issue: the amazing Gossiper plugin is very useful to mitigate the hassle, and i’m positive in the future it will be upgraded to support custom labels.

The MOD Footswitch is (obviously) better integrated into the environment and the four footswitchs feels like butter  I love it.

if you are even advertising places to buy MOD devices, I can’t see any problem on sharing

Thanks @jon!

So, I bougth it on Microfusa, and this is the link: MOD Devices MOD Footswitch

Apparently they have MOD Footswitch in stock, but I don’t know how accurate are they in maintaining the e-commerce.

Because they only ship to Spain and Portugal, I had to rely on a rapackaging service to receive my beloved unit in Italy; I used Colisexpat (https://www.colisexpat.com/) but I don’t know how they compare to their competitor… I received my package, so I guess I can’t complain

I’ve been trying to find a breakdown of all the possible functions of the Mod Footswitch in combination with the Mod Duo X. The descriptions I’ve seen only mention switching plugins on or off, but no mention of program change or snapshot selection? Is it possible to assign multiple controllers to each physical foot switch, such as turning on or off several plugins at once, or single press and second press assigned to different functions? Thank you.

Hi @Abotte.
Do you know whether Microfusa are selling off old stock? Because I found posts on the forum talking about several hardware issues such as poor quality footswitches, thin metal used for the base plate of the enclosure, and screws stripping threads easily. I’m considering purchasing one from Microfusa, but obviously don’t want one with those issues.
Also, have you tried mapping the foot switches to program change or snapshot selection? Is it easy to program, and what information appears on the two screens during use? Thank you.

These controls work the same as the onboard controls on the MOD units.

So the answer here is: no

I would say the “quick answer”. Using CV plugins you can assign more stuff. Like with the onboard controls.

@dscb57 take a look on this quick tutorial for that: CV Tutorial - MOD Wiki

True, it was more meant as a “straight” answer

Through patching trickery we can achieve many more things of course.

Hi,
I can only report my experience, as I have never purchased anything else from that store.

The package I received was not in immaculate shape: the box is white and it was quite dirty, and I assume it was due to years of waiting on some shelves in the warehouse.
Inside the box, everything looked neat and clean: no scratches, no fingerprints: it really looked like a brand new product (as it should have been since I bought a new product).

I like the 4 foot switches: they are smaller than the ones I have in my Dwarf, offer less resistance, and seem reasonably solid. The metal casing looks fine to me, and all the screws are in place.

Now let’s talk about operation: the device offers two two-line displays, each of which has 15 characters (it should be 16, but -according to other discussions in this forum- it seems that the last one disappeared after the lastest firmware update). You can assign a parameter to a footswitch or assign all the snapshots and cycle them. I don’t think it is possible to cycle the pedalboards.

I can’t speak for Mod Duo X, but comparing it to the Dwarf, the latter has better labels: when assigning the “Button” control of the “Multi Button to CV” plugin, the Dwarf shows 3 signs to let the user know the state of the button (Single press, Double press, Long press): the Mod Footswitch only shows the name of the control. On the other hand, I find it much easier to press the Mod Footswitch to activate a double press than to press one of the Dwarf’s switches.

Other plugins that make better use of labels are the Looperlative loopers: if you associate the Loop control with the Dwarf the label changes depending on the action you are about to perform (Record, Overdub, Play) and the LED flashes accordingly: the Mod Footswitch only shows the name of the control and the LED has a simpler behavior.

Another thing to consider is that Mod Footswhich is a device that is not exactly cheap and it’s bounded with Mod devices: nowadays there are plenty of midi controllers that offer similar features, better screens and -being midi controllers- can be used to operate on other devices.

Personally I didn’t regret my purchase and I am very happy with the device.

Thank you for your in depth reply. The problem with alternative midi foot controllers is that - priced at 160€ at Microfusa, the Mod foot switch seems comparatively affordable. But I agree that compared with those other controllers the Mod foot switch seems rather primitive, with very little in the way of customisation available.
Even the humble but dirt cheap Mvave Chocolate seems quite versatile - if it were not for the extremely limited visual feedback on its tiny screen. But if Mvave were to release a similar device with screens for each foot switch at a similarly affordable street price, I’m sure they would capture a sizeable chunk of the market.
Looking at several of the floorboard type processors now coming out of China, we now find full colour displays with large alpha-numerics, so the hardware is now available to support this technology, and presumably at an affordable price point.
It may be a viable venture for the Mod team to consider? They’d almost certainly have a captive market, since most if not all Mod device users would welcome a product which would greatly expand the usability of these products - something I believe we’ve all been waiting for…
