MOD DuoX - Using without web interface

So I’m finding my way around the web interface pretty easily, but when it comes to using the MODX stand alone I am out of my depth and could really use some help.
A good start would be a user guide for the MODX itself - where can I find that? I have only been able to find a user guide for the web interface, but that doesn’t address the device itself.
On my MODX the three middle buttons don’t seem to do anything, except when long pressing on the middle button, after which it lights up, but doesn’t seem to actually do anything. The outer two buttons just remain red, but do nothing I am able to detect.
When using certain pedal boards the bottom left two buttons light up and allow me to select or deselect a function, but what I am unable to do is access other pages for these functions.
I know how to use the two rotary controls to access the basic menus, but that’s about all I’ve been able to do.
I have connected an expression pedal but can’t get it to work either.

I have a rough idea of how to go about assigning different effects functions to the MODX’s control panel, but I’m reluctant to try in case I mess something up before I’m really sure I understand what I’m doing.

Very soon I will receive my M-Vave Chocolate MIDI foot controller, and I really need to learn how to assign functions to both the device switches and the external foot controller and expression pedal, in order to start to really use the device properly, rather than having to manually switch effects on and off using the web interface ;).
So any help or advice would really be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi

Did you look into the wiki ?
https://wiki.mod.audio/wiki/Main_Page

Did you assign them to do anything ?

Did you assign a parameter to the CV input of the DuoX ?

In addition to the wiki, you may also be able to find useful information here:

I did have a look at it before acquiring the device, but it doesn’t really cover the specific topics I needed to learn about, and the links which it contains don’t take me where I expect them to.

No, I assumed that these switching parameters would have been saved along with the pedal boards I downloaded? But in fact only one or two even had different snapshots. I realised that the majority of these pedal boards had probably been programmed using either the Mod Duo or the Mod Dwarf, so even if they contained these assigned control parameters, they would not correspond to my MODX.

No, and even after going through both online guides and watching the 3 far more helpful videos I still don’t understand this.
Also, I actually have a Digitech Wah/Volume pedal with a CV output, but I have no idea what type of cable needs to be used to connect it to the MODX, nor how to configure the device to use the expression function of the Digitech pedal.
Also, thanks to the three demonstration videos I now understand how to assign different functions from within plugins to the different controllers on the MODX, but now I have another question:
Is it possible to assign multiple functions to a single controller, such as one of the switches, or one of the control knobs? This would be very useful in one particular scenario in which I am using a pedal board with multiple cascading delay lines. Assigning the delay time of each of the eight delays to a single controller means that for example I could assign this to expression control (if I knew how to), then be able to create a swell effect by sweeping through multiple different delay times…sounds crazy, I know, but I think it could work well. Similarly, I could also asign the individual modulation for each delay line to the same external controller.
Something else I want to know how to do is use an expression pedal to morph between two different channel settings (I’m using too completely separate chains, one for a clean sound and the other for soloing, and rather than assigning a switch to change channels I find it a little smoother to be able to transition from one to the other. Thank you…

You can use a Control To CV plugin (in the CV menu, click “Manage CV ports” name it, then assign all the parameters you want on one control to that CV name in the assignment window.

For the expression pedal morph, set up the two sounds you want to morph between, then feed them into the x-fade plugin, and assign the x-fade dial to your pedal (I think it’s listed in the “CV” Menu as CV exp pedal).

Oh I forgot-- for the first one you should assign that Control to CV plugin “control” parameter to your physical control, in case that wasn’t obvious!

Or maybe the creator of the pedalboard didn’t need to map those physical controls.

Please, as @dreamer already pointed out, the device name is Mod DuoX: since there’s another completely different device whose name is MODX, it would be best if you use the correct name to avoid any misunderstanding when someone, in the future, will search the forum looking for info. :slightly_smiling_face:

Point taken, being so new here I just picked this denomination based on its use on many posts in various sections of this forum. I wasn’t aware of the existence on this other device, so it may be that at least some of those posts using this denomination were actually not referring to the Mod Duo X, so I quite understand your need to point this out, since I see how it could definitely lead to confusion. Thanks for pointing this out.
