Me and an AI buddy have been working on a plugin inspired by the EHX Super Ego. At this point it’s far from perfect but it’s already funny. I probably need to adjust and reduce the available params. Tweaking this and that you may end up with some interesting sounds. No modgui yet. You can download binaries for ModDwarf and RB Pi 5 here.
I trust AI…not one bit. But in this context it is fairly verifiable if it’s making up nonsense or not. Anyhow, I had to try it out. Note, there was not one second of planning in this video. I just rolled the recording and smacked some chords into it and twiddled. Sorry if it goes on a bit long with the exploration.
Fun texture machine. It occasionally “Hainbached” without me even trying which is cool. There were some clicks here and there and maybe some clipping at moments. Not sure if I was hitting it too hard with signal or what.

While testing, I had a few musical ideas that I think could be cool. And that’s always great with gear/software! Congrats on that!
I would say in general that it is better to use a kind of staccato notes. Lots of notes or even chords turn it a bit too hard to control and sometimes quite messy. But I think that’s a limitation worth the type and goals of the plugin.
What would you need from the community to move it forward? Do you have some UI ideas?
This first draft makes it possible, by finely adjusting the parameters, to get something close to the effect I was looking for, but also some more unexpected results. I was aiming for pad-like sounds rather than looping and repetition effects. For the sake of simplicity, I may eventually move toward two separate plugins with fewer parameters on the user side. I posted the links here right before jumping on a plane for a short trip. I’ll pick this up again when I get back.
I don’t mind the number of parameters. Encourages exploration. But, I can see wanting a “more to the point” version.
Wouldn’t that be solved with plugin presets? I can tell you that I created immediately 2 or 3 ![]()
A new version is avalaible at github.com. Interesting things with sample length at +/-130 ms, Attack skip at 75ms, grain size +/- halfway, as for grain xfade. Adjust the envelope settings, especilally attack and sustain. The detune/chorus + blend adds a lot.
