Thank you. It seems like something on my computer has changed. I logged in as a different user on my mac to make sure everything was clear and it works. Just doesn’t work on any browser on my usual account. Not sure how to remedy this but at least I can use the device now.
Thank you for this write-up, much appreciated while trying to get the Wifi access to work.
Just a thought, without having read more about the subject. But wouldn’t it be possible to set a static IP address to the MOD in the device providing the hotspot? Similar to how you manually set an IP on a regular router.

Setting dhcp server to provide the same IP address for the same device based it’s MAC address is usually possible on WiFi routers (it takes a very dumb router to lack that feature).
But when phone is a hotspot itself - there is no control not for setting up the up. I’d tried that with 3 android phones, and could not find a way.
All right, thought it would be pretty straight forward to assign static IP on Android.
But now that I check in my Android. I seem to be able to see the assigned IP address of the connected device inside the Hotspot settings, and also give it a name (making me think it will be remembered next time it connects
). Is this not the IP address to use? Or why do you need to use terminal to find the IP? I see your post is from three years ago. So perhaps things simply have improved on that front by now.
