MOD Dwarf background noise by power supply

@Lukasz Can you provide a photo of your pedalboard? I am curious…

I can second that. I have switched to TrueTone 1spotPro CS7 and since than not a peep. It’s powering the pedals on my desk. I have also acquired a power supply “for the road” which is a Harely Benton PowerPlant adapter, capable of 12V 3A, which is also groundless and quiet when plugged in.

The black one is SS3 clone - really nice one. Kernom can make any garbage guitar sound pristine.

Hi @Lukasz Cool board! I really like and appreciate it. It is minimalistic and I love this. Thanks for the shot!

I have the Kernom as well but I will sell it, because I can cover it within the Dwarf. I meanwhile have two Dwarfs on my board because I am playing 3 instruments and singing, all through the two Dwarfs. I am a bit jalous about your Mod DuoX, to be honest. :stuck_out_tongue: I also had the idea to buy a used one and to replace the Dwarf with it. But at the end I decided to go for a second Dwarf.

I get background noise if my computer is connected to the USB port.
As far as Germans go, they are about as annoying as us Americans. Some are nice and some, not so much.

“I get background noise if my computer is connected to the USB port.” - this is a normal thing, it is this same here.

“I have the Kernom as well but I will sell it, because I can cover it within the Dwarf.” - I love Kernom for easyness with tweaking good sounds.

“I also had the idea to buy a used one and to replace the Dwarf with it. But at the end I decided to go for a second Dwarf.” - I love the idea of having both - DuoX and Dwarf. At this point DUoX is my NAM loader - I can spend money on amalgam profiles :))). On the other hand Dwarf is small, has footswitches, navigation using 3 knobs and 3 switches is perfectly designed, works just great. Also the way the parameters are displayed is much better than in duo X, but it does not work with heavy stuff, like NAM… so it is good to have them both

It doesn’t happen on any other device I own. Normal on the MOD device. Not on anything else. So not normal, IMHO.

the question is - do you use a laptop and if it is connected with wall socket? In my case I experience noise only if my laptop is connected with wall socket by charger.

Yes, it is connected to power. However, this is not normal behavior. I use two Line 6 devices and a USB sound interface. No issues. Normal for a MOD, not normal for anything else. That’s my point.

What shits me is that ModAudio knew of the power noise issues yet never replaced the power supply even years on. I waited for years to get my ‘founders edition’ only for it to be unusable. I couldn’t believe it still had the same power supply. I did all this prep work for a show (thinking the noise was from the USB connection) and then hooking it up to my rig, it was totally unusable. Such a waste of time. I haven’t touched it since as I don’t have time to try and fix something that should be working. So disappointing.

I thought I’d come back to the forum to see if there’s a definite answer but there still doesn’t seem to be one. ModAudio should have an official statement about this. I’d even feel guilty about selling it to someone so I’ve just had to ‘bin it’ for now.

I’d just like a replacement power supply that works. I don’t want to lug around a full daisy chain or iso boxes as part of the attraction was it’s form factor.

Hello @rdomain, I’m really sorry for your bad experience with the device.
Just to clear things up, this doesn’t happen in 100% of the cases. In fact, it doesn’t even occur in the majority, yet it’s a “loud” issue, since when users face it, they really need to find a solution, so they come here in search of one.

It seems to me that you didn’t read through this very same thread

A bit up in this thread, you get your answer on why the power supply could not be replaced. @Kim gives the best explanation on that.

There’s not one, there are multiple, a bit all over the forum and also on the wiki.
Here you have a quick “rule out” of possible sources for the problem and here a more detailed guide to help you solve the issue.

That’s indeed a pity and I can understand your frustration. There’s nothing more annoying than relying on a piece of gear for a gig, wasting a lot of time with it and then this piece of gear lets us down. But I’m pretty sure that with the help of the guides, the experience of this great community from the MOD Forum and if you need my direct help, you will find a solution and manage to get your MOD Dwarf up and running for every show.
