MIDI "Chocolate" šŸ« controller with the Mod Dwarf, an introduction

I have chocolate plus since some months ago and never happen to me…

Do you have last firmware in chocolate?

I think I’ve figured it out, at least in part. When assigning cc values i did not always select the code int the ā€œVisual behaviorā€ list that popped up - I only changed the value on the interface page. When I went back to the dwarf interface to test and save I was only watching to see if it actually did what I intended, and only glanced at the message that popped up in the upper right hand corner, mainly to verify that the dwarf was recognizing input from the controller. At some point I looked at the pop-up message more closely and noticed that the code it displayed was not the one I had entered on the interface page in the CubeSuite app. I obviously had not read SrMouraSilva’s intro closely enough and had not noticed the faint white line under the cc code on the ā€œVisual Behaviorā€ list. That solved that problem.

Part of my problem is also my limited understanding of midi. In my frustration over the above problem I began to change things that I shouldn’t have and lost the changes I had made that did work.

In short, this was a classic case of ā€œuser errorā€.

In regard to firmware updates - I haven’t been able to find any info about that on the M-Vave site.

Thanks for your help! Looks like my assignment for today is to read SrMouraSilva’s intro more closely and learn a lot more about midi. I’ve even started looking into json.

Okay, update time. Twice since my previous post I’ve fired up my rig and the Chocolate had lost it’s settings. At one point I thought I’d figured out why and how to avoid that, but the last two times I had to open the app on my phone and connect to the controller over BT. The settings came back. That didn’t give me a lot of confidence that I could count on getting to a gig and firing things up and having everything work. It never does anyway. This just added another element of uncertainty. That - plus the lack of LEDs - prompted me to return it.

It’s an excellent learning device though, and it does what a midi controller should do. I just didn’t want to deal with another possible point of failure. I’m enough of a point of failure all by myself!

This is a great thread for the midi info alone. I’m sure I’ll be referring back to it in the future, but for now midi’s on the back burner.

Many thanks to SrMouraSilva and to everyone who contributed!
